In 2018, she assumed the cocaptain role for the squad. At the 2021 Olympics in Tokyo Japan was delayed until 2021 because of the COVID-19 virus. Rapinoe scored two goals during the bronze medal game when the United States defeated Australia by a total of 4-3.
